Branka Pereglin, Croatia

Branka Pereglin, representative of Croatia, born 1 February 1964 in Budinšćina, Croatian Zagorje. Member of the crossbow association “Dubrava 1094”. She started shooting guns in 1983. She is definitely the best Croatian crossbow shooter and the best female crossbow shooter in the world by results and by number of medals concerning the most important championships. She has been European championess nine times, in 1995 (Portugal), in 1997 (Portugal), in 1999 (Croatia), in 2001 (Czech Republic), in 2005 (the Netherlands) and in 2007 (Russia) outdoor, and in 2003 (indoor, 18 m) in Belgium, 2005 (Russia) and in 2009 (Croatia). From 1995 to 2009 she took part in all European championships and she won all of them! She is fourfold world championess, in 1996 (Taiwan), in 1998 (Hungary), in 2002 (Croatia) and in 2004 (Czech Republic). She is also vice-championess of the world of 2000 (New Zealand) and of 2006 (Austria), and bronz medal in 2008 (Switzerland). She set world records seventeen (17) times; once she equalized world records, seven times European records and 59 times she set and nine times equalized national outdoor records. Eight times she set indoor records in the discipline of 18 metres and six times she equalized national records. She owns current world (5) and national (6) outdoor records as well as four (4) European and five (5) national indoor records. As member of the national team she gained eight world and nine European team medals. In her team as well as individually she gained 33 medals altogether in world and European crossbow field championships (15 world and 18 European medals). She shot for the Croatian crossbow field team 60 times. She got the title of “International champion shooter” in 1996 and she holds the status of first-categorie sportswoman. By decision of the Croatian president in 2001 she was awarded with the medal of “DANICA HRVATSKA” showing Franjo Bucar. She was nominated the best crossbow shooter of Croatia twelve times. Together with Sanja Komar Nikolina Krivanek (2002 and 2004) and Tihana Odlešić (2007) she was nominated the most successful Croatian sports team in 2002, 2004 and in 2007 by decision of the Croatian Olympic committee, in 2004 by an opinion poll of the sports newspaper “Sportske novosti” from Zagreb by the vote of 398 journalists from 58 journalistic, radio and TV editorial offices.
